Refugee students receive scholarships

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Ten high school students born in other countries were recognized Wednesday in Bowling Green for their hard work.

The International Center of Kentucky awarded 10 $500 scholarships.

The center’s staff consulted with education experts in other local organizations to help decide the recipients. The main qualifying factor is students have to be high-performers academically.

The students will use the money to purchase electronics, such as laptops, to assist with their school work. One of the scholarship recipients, Simon Thang says he was pleasantly surprised to be named a recipient, only finding out last week he was to receive the award.

The scholarships were made possible through a grant the International Center received.
