Red River Gorge, trail now set to reopen on May 22

WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service says Red River Gorge and Redbird Crest Off-Highway Vehicle Trail System are set to reopen earlier than planned. The agency said in a statement that both areas are now set to open Friday, instead of June 3. Daniel Boone National Forest Supervisor Dan Olsen said the decision comes on the heels the governor’s decision to lift a travel ban on May 22. He said the agency felt it could move the reopening to the same date while still emphasizing safety. Most day-use sites are still set to open June 3 and officials aim to open campgrounds on June 11.
