Red Cross volunteers help Med Center Health vaccination efforts

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Red Cross volunteers are always ready to help in the event of an emergency or disaster.

And in the era of the pandemic, they have been a huge help in helping the process of COVID-19 vaccine clinics.

Terry Reagan is one of the half dozen Red Cross volunteers at Med Center Health.

“The local chapter here in South Central Kentucky is one of the first in the country in fact to be contacted and reached out. We had to get special permission from our national organization to be able to participate in this. And that just goes with our humanitarian mission in helping people in a time of need. When they need it the most, the Red Cross is one of the first places to step in and help people in need,” said Reagan.

Melinda Joyce, Corporate Director of Pharmacy, said Med Center Health would be in an entirely different situation without the help of Red Cross and other volunteers.

“There would be no way we would be able to do this many vaccines each single day. Because we use over 80 volunteers each day,” said Joyce.

Reagan says they are just happy to be out serving the community. They wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It’s not about the number of shots we give, or it’s not about the number of people or the number of thank yous we get. Sometimes it’s the most humbling experience to have people cry or have people want to hug you because they got a COVID shot today and they’re able to hug their family and do other things,” said Reagan.

Joyce said if anyone who would like to help volunteer can call Med Center Health at (270) 745-1000.
