Red Cross needs donations for World Blood Donor Day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Wednesday is National Blood Donor Day, and the American Red Cross needs your help.
They are continuing to search for blood from willing donors. Over the next few weeks, there will be blood drives at the Holiday Inn at Sloan Convention Center.
Then later in the month, the Harley Davidson dealership in Bowling Green, the Historic RailPark & Bruster’s on Scottsville Road will also host drives.
Someone in the US needs a blood transfusion every two seconds, so it’s important that blood banks have a full supply.
“Blood isn’t just for transfusions. There are all sorts of medical needs for blood, and blood can be used in many different ways. If you donate one pint of blood, you can save multiple lives because we can do so much with just that one pint,” Sherri McKinney with the American Red Cross says.
All types of blood are accepted, but the Red Cross is especially looking for O Positive or O Negative blood types. These are the universal donors that can be inserted into anyone’s bloodstream.
