Red Cross Elementary students give over 400 supplies to BRAWA

GLASGOW Ky.-Students of a local elementary school took the initiative to help out their area animal shelter. The results were exciting for many.

Students of Red Cross Elementary in the Barren County School district recently dropped off over 400 items to the Barren River Animal Welfare Association, also called BRAWA. These items ranged from pet treats and cleaning supplies just to name a few.

This was part of world kindness week, and magnet students wanted to do something to help out a local organization. Some of these items were on the BRAWA need list, and shelter staff were thrilled to get them from the children.

Red Cross Principal Josh Maples said it’s reasons like this that he’s proud to be the principal of these kids.

“I couldn’t be more proud to be the principal of Red Cross. I’ve known Red Cross for several years, and to be here as their principal is just an honor. Every day, I see the heart of Red Cross, the heart of our kids, and the heart of our staff. It makes all the difference,” Maples said.

Connie Greer with BRAWA echoes Maples’s statement, saying the future is bright with young kids as generous as they are in the area.

“Glasgow is a nice small town. Everyone pretty much knows everyone, and the kids have been so incredibly giving. If this is our future for tomorrow, I’m really excited,” Greer said.
