Red Cross Elementary gets ‘Gold Star’ award

BARREN CO., Ky.-Red Cross Elementary is being recognized as one of 39 schools in the state for their behavior support!

The Kentucky Department of Education awarded ‘Gold Status’ to the school for their positive behavioral interventions and aid they have in place to help students reach behavioral success.

They have a PBIS plan in place with fun incentives students can earn. One is giving out ‘Caught Being a Leader Tickets’ where teachers and staff recognize students who are following the guidelines for success.

Other fun prizes are getting a ‘Mustang Horseshoe’ for excellent behavior in the hallways and getting a t-shirt for being a Red Cross leader.

“We’re fortunate to get to see this every day. Again, not everybody has this opportunity so I’m glad this recognition is getting out there so people can look at Red Cross and think hey they’re doing great things for kids, that’s what we wanna do every day,” said principal Josh Maples.

Behavior interventions at the school include mentoring and small group instruction in building social skills and self-regulation strategies.
