Realtors help the hungry
It’s hunger and homelessness awareness week, and the Realtor Association of Southern Kentucky is doing its part to lend a helping hand.
Today the organization donated over $13,000 of food to local school districts.
In October, the Realtor Association of Southern Kentucky Raised nearly 19-thousand dollars at its 5th Annual ‘Hope for Homeless Glow Run.’
The money raised was used to purchase non-perishable food items for local school districts, which add up to around 100,000 servings of food divided among the districts.
“It is absolutely fantastic. Just seeing the Family Resource Coordinators come through to get food to take to their schools, to pass out to the children, that they know are in need of food, it’s a total blessing. It’s absolutely wonderful,” said Christine Morgan, the President of the Realtor Association of Southern Kentucky.
Family Resource Coordinators from eight different school districts picked up their donations earlier today.
They will be able to give that food to families in need over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks.
“This donation, I can’t tell you how excited we are to get this and get this out to our families. We are so excited about receiving this today,” said Todd Hazel, with Warren County Public Schools.
Those school districts include Warren County, Bowling Green, Allen County, Russellville, Logan County, Simpson County, Edmonson County and Butler County.
“We couldn’t do without donations like this. It’s the perfect time with the holiday season and with our Thanksgiving food baskets. Having this extra food to provide for our families is amazing,” said Alicia Edwards, with Edmonson County Schools.
The rest of the money went to Hotel Inc, an organization that helps citizens in need in Warren County.
“The other area that we support, is Hotel Inc. We were able to give them a check for $5,700. Which they will be able to triple with Meijer’s, so their $5,700 turns into over $17,000 worth of food items they can purchase for the Manna Mart,” said Katharina Cisco, a member of the Realtor Association of Southern Kentucky.
The Realtor Association of Southern Kentucky hosts events throughout the year to raise money for the ‘Hope for the Homeless’ campaign.
