Rand Paul sues neighbor who assaulted him
U.S. Senator Rand Paul filed a civil lawsuit against his neighbor Rene Boucher, the man who pleaded guilty in federal court to assaulting Paul last year.
Boucher pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court March 9 to one count of assaulting a member of Congress. He has been sentenced to serve 30 days in prison.
Paul said in the lawsuit against Boucher that he has “sustained serious personal injuries and damages.”
Boucher’s attorney was not immediately available Monday evening for comment.
Paul said in the lawsuit he believes Boucher will stalk and harass him unless he is court-ordered not to do so.
Paul is asking for compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys fees and a permanent injunction that prevents Boucher from contact with Paul. The suit was filed in Warren Circuit Court.
