R.E. Stevenson flood donation drive a success, community rallies to help Tennessee
RUSSELLVILLE Ky.- A recent donation drive by a local elementary school was a success, as items were sent off to aid in flood relief.
The goods collected in the Tennessee flood donation drive held by R.E. Stevenson Elementary School in the Russellville Independent School District were taken to Waverly Tennessee by a representative from Yapaks, a Clarksville Tennessee based ministry.
The items were taken Tuesday and are already being put to use in the area. School staff say while it was uplifting to see so many donations, it wasn’t surprising to know that so many would be willing to give.
Stevenson Elementary family resource center coordinator Carol Kees says the community is known for putting the needs of others before their own.
“The thing that really is amazing, we’re an 80% free and reduced lunch school population. So many people struggle with meeting their own daily needs, but yet we’re able to find a way to give to this. From outside community members that donated, that was wonderful. To see kids so happy to be able to help someone else, that was even better,” Kees said.
