Protecting yourself from car break-ins

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department says the City of Bowling Green has seen an uptick in car break-ins and is sharing some vital ways to keep your belongings protected.

BGPD public information officer Ronnie Ward tells News 40 that they cannot prevent all break-ins from happening, so it’s better to take care of your belongings just in case.

Ward says there are a few easy things to remember when you leave your car.

“If you have anything of value, make sure it’s hidden well in your car, or you can take it in with you. Also, no firearms. Do not leave your firearms in your car. Worst case somebody steals the firearms and commits crimes with it,” Ward says.

Ward also says to never approach someone who may be breaking in to a car as well. You should immediately call the police and never approach the subject.
