Program instills leadership in boys

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Empowering one boy at a time, Boys to Men, is a group that motivates young boys to be the best version of themselves. Today they visited Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary School as a part of their initiative.

Confidence, communication skills, work ethic and most importantly leadership skills.

That’s what the Boys to Men Initiative is teaching these young boys.

“I learned how to use manners, be respectful to teachers and help people in need,” said fifth grade student Kharden Naudecker.

On Tuesday morning every boy at Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary School received a kit for success from the Boys to Men Leadership Group.

These kits contained a white dress shirt, khaki pants and ties.

But for the director Tyreon Clark it’s more than clothing.

“This is for them. If it wasn’t for them and their participation, this program would have not come this far. That’s why I have them here with me. It’s not about me and my mission. It’s about seeing them continue to push forward. Even when I am gone, and they are older, they can be anything they want to be,” Boys to Men leadership group director Tyreon Clark.

The boys can wear these outfits on Fridays but only if they have good behavior and complete all their school work.

Clark hopes it gives them motivation to do their best.

“These guys have showed up every Friday. They did exactly what they need to do participate in the program. The recognition the program is getting is because of these guys,” said Clark

Students enjoy wearing these clothes because it shows others they are leaders in the school.

“It’s kind of cool that I get to be a leader. I’m doing this to be a good person in life, to have good grades and to have a good education,” said fifth grade student Chris Moore.

Clark just wants to give these boys the tools they need to succeed.

“I don’t do it for myself, I do it for them. I would give them my clothes off my back just to see a smile on their face,” Clark concluded
