Proclamation at Allen County Senior Center honors Older Americans Month

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – Monday afternoon, Barren River Development District, along with local officials, held an open house at the Allen County Senior Center, followed by a proclamation recognizing May 2026 as Older Americans Month.

Scottsville Mayor David Burch and Allen County Judge Executive Dennis Harper were in attendance to sign the proclamation.

Community members were also allowed to tour the facility and learn more about the senior center’s programs and services.

Officials say the center provides seniors with a place for fellowship, warm meals and activities that support both physical and mental well-being.

Leaders say that recognizing “Older Americans Month” in Allen County highlights the impact that the older population has on the community.

“They do contribute so much to our community. Like I said earlier, their experience, their wisdom, and their wit, and what they’ve done in the past as far as vocational and just the opportunity to speak to younger folks, and the perspective alone is really helpful,” Burch said.

BRADD will continue to do these open houses and proclamations at the 13 different Senior Centers across the 10 counties they serve. The next open house will take place at the Barren County Senior Center on Wednesday, May 6, at 10 a.m.
