Priceville Community Center Basement offering shelter from storms

HART COUNTY, Ky. – With this weather on the way, it is important to know where the closest storm shelter is.

Northwestern Hart County is served by the Priceville Community Center.

The basement there provides a shelter open to the community during severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings. The center is owned and operated by the Priceville Fire Department.

Noah Rountree, chief at the Priceville Fire Department, says, “We have lots of people living in mobile homes. We also have a couple of trailer parks in our 104 square-mile district. So I would encourage those folks especially, or anybody that can’t get in an interior room on the lowest point or in a basement or in an underground storm shelter, you’re more than welcome here.”

Twenty to 30 people have sheltered there in past storms. The center sits at 7030 Raider Hollow Road right across from the Priceville Fire Department, and where better to ride out a storm than with firefighters trained in medical services?
