Prices increasing in grain prices also affects local businesses

BOWLING GREEN, Ky– Inflation and supply chain disruptions are hurting more than just the US economy.

A local grain farmer understands that the rising price of his grain is hurting the businesses that need it.

CJ Hickman, a local farmer, says “Fertilizer prices have skyrocketed, equipment prices have skyrocketed, not from the war in Ukraine, but just from the supply chain shortage in the US.”

Hickman says that even the chemicals that he sprays on fields to control weed and insects have become more expensive and more difficult to find.

What hurts farmers like Hickman also affects people like Isaiah King, the owner at Gasper Brewing co, a local Bowling Green brewery.

King says he’s seen a 15-20% increase in grain prices go up in the last couple of months and has had to combat raising his beer prices with staying open longer.

King also says he plans to stick with his current prices and is hoping to see relief soon as this is just a period to adapt and overcome.
