President purges Department of Homeland Security
(NBC News) Frustrated by the situation at the southern border, President Trump is purging leadership at the Department of Homeland Security to make his immigration agenda easier to enact, while the leadership void in his administration continues to grow.
President Trump is replacing Secret Service Director Randolph Alles one day after his boss, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, was forced to resign.
Despite Nielsen’s continued support of the president, she and Mr. Trump disagree on how to stop migrants from crossing the border a record 100,000 last month.
Three U.S. officials tell NBC News that the president wants to reinstate the family separation policy that led to children being held in cages.
The shakeup at Homeland Security leaves six top positions without permanent replacements.
