Portland, Tennessee man charged after alleged threat to ‘blow up’ veterinary hospital

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Portland, Tennessee man is facing charges in connection with an alleged threat to blow up the University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital in Knoxville.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Aug. 7, according to a police report obtained by WVLT News. The officer who filled out the report said they received a call to respond to the hospital after receiving the threat.

Authorities say 37-year-old Joseph McDorman of Portland, Tennessee contacted the hospital and asked for his pet spider monkey to be seen. McDorman was told he would have to wait until the clinic opened at 7:30 a.m., according to the report, and he told the phone operator that if the monkey died, he would blow the building up.
The clinic refused to serve McDorman after the threat, the report said.
Police then used information gathered from the phone number used in the call to locate McDorman.
He faces charges of harassment and making a threat of mass violence.
