Police hold Kentucky man in killing of couple, arson of home

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Officials say a Kentucky man is accused of killing a married couple outside an apartment building they owned, then barricading himself inside and setting a fire before police arrested him. Richmond Police Chief Rodney Richardson told news outlets that officers responded to the scene Tuesday when a witness reported a shooting. Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison identified those fatally shot as 54-year-old Christopher Hager and 52-year-old Gracie Hager. The suspect was later identified as 51-year-old Thomas Birl. Police say he barricaded himself inside and set a fire before police shot “rounds of powdered gas” inside, prompting him to come out. Authorities have not released charges or a motive for the shooting.
