Plane skids into Florida river
(NBC News) Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are still working to determine why a Miami Air jetliner skidded off of a runway at Naval Air Station Jacksonville Saturday and into the St. Johns River.
There were 136 passengers and seven crew members on the charter flight from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
At least 50 firefighters responded, helping passengers waiting on the wings and in life rafts get back on land.
Twenty-one people went to the hospital for minor injuries.
The flight data recorder has been recovered.
“That will give us airspeed, point of touchdown, relative to what aircraft was doing,” says NTSB vice chairman Bruce Landsberg.
