Pizza for a cause

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tuesday night was not your normal night at Larry’s Pizza. There was still a lot of pizza-eating going on but this time, there was a twist…local businesses pledged money for every slice eaten by a police officer. The money is used to fund Shop With a Trooper, an annual drive where children who might normally not receive gifts on Christmas morning get to go out shopping with a police officer and pick out toys and clothing.

It was a tasty way to raise funds for the program and it only took one special moment to convince Trooper Weaver to sign up for this assignment. He tells WNKY News he saw the need for the program when he took a child out shopping and the child wanted to use half of the money for his family rather than for himself.

The final count…Trooper Weaver ate a total of forty-seven slices of pizza and raised five thousand dollars for shop with a trooper.
