Piper Lindsey introduced as next Trojanette softball head coach

GLASGOW, Ky. – Monday afternoon at Barren County High School, Daryl Murphy, former longtime head coach of Trojanette softball and now interim co-athletic director for the school, announced Piper Lindsey as the next head coach of the program.

Lindsey has served as the girls basketball head coach since 2015 and will continue in that role as she gains another lead spot.

“A lot of things are similar. The championship DNA, that is universal. The winning culture doesn’t change from the hardwood to the dirt, and regardless, I’m going to be passionate about what I’m doing,” Lindsey said.

“The tactical focus will be there, it’s just the intensity in the dugout as opposed to the intensity on the court.”

The winning culture that Lindsey speaks of was a key reason as to why Murphy reached out to her.

Both the girls basketball team and the softball team finished the most recent season as 4th Region runners-up, but prior to that, both teams have been regulars down the postseason stretch.

Now Lindsey has the opportunity to head a pair of high caliber squads at once, and despite the slight overlap in schedules, she wants to assure Trojanette fans that each team is in very good hands.

“ I don’t want anybody to worry about that. I’ve got some incredible assistants that will help me in the offseason. I can still do a lot of stuff in the fall with both programs,” Lindsey said. “Like I said, basketball will be my priority. I’ve got people to help me with softball, then once we transition, it’ll be all about softball.”

The chance to take over Barren County softball marks a full circle moment for Lindsey, whose father, Billy, was the school’s first fastpitch coach back in 1997.

She was able to play four years during her high school tenure, graduating in 2004, and still likes to get a few swings in herself in the present day.

“I have been playing a little bit of slow pitch here in the summers with our church league team, so I can’t get enough of it,” Lindsey said. “I do love it. Softball’s one of my favorites.”

“ I’m just so excited about this opportunity. I want to thank the administration for believing in me to take on this program, and again, they’re incredible and I just can’t wait to continue.”
