Phone scammer claims to be deputy with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents of a scam, where someone is calling people, claiming to be a member of the law enforcement agency.
According to authorities in Warren County, on Tuesday, a Bowling Green resident received a phone call from someone named Deputy Barry Riley with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
The scammer claimed he was with the warrants and citation division within the sheriff’s office and told the person he was speaking with that there was a warrant out for their arrest.
The scammer advised the person on the phone that they needed to get a prepaid gift card worth $1,800 and take it to the sheriff’s office.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says it’s a scam if the caller instructs you to pay them or purchase a gift card.
