Pharmacist says to get ahead of allergies this season
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Allergy season is beginning in Kentucky and experts say you will feel a lot better if you get ahead of your symptoms.
A few of the common symptoms include itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, trouble breathing and swollen lips, tongue or eyes.
Courtney Sheldon, pharmacist at Sheldon’s, says there are a few ways to reduce your allergies. First, know your triggers, such as pollen or ragweed, and try to avoid them.
Sheldon also said it’s important to spring clean and if you spend time outside, change your clothes and shower to help get allergens off of you. She says you can track pollen counts online to know what to expect each day.
“What is nice is you can go online, just like you can check the weather forecast, you can also check for pollen. So you can go on and it’ll give you a three-day forecast, letting you know the pollen count for today, tomorrow and the next day so you can kinda gauge your day whether you’re going to be outside or inside,” said Sheldon.
Sheldon also said over the counter medicine like antihistamine and decongestants will help too.
