Pet safety tips for 4th of July weekend
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On top of all the bad weather and hot temperatures, the 4th of July is not far away, and your pets are just as important as celebrating your freedom.
If you or your neighbors plan on shooting fireworks this weekend, you can talk with your vet about getting a prescription that will keep your pets calm throughout the night.
As we brace for the hot weather, outdoor pets should be kept in a place that is shaded or does not have direct sunlight that can effect them.
Warren County Animal Control has another tip for those who have fenced in yards.
“I would recommend not leaving your dogs outside even if you have a fenced yard, because they’re going to get scared and most likely climb out of the fence or under the fence. Ideally, keep your dogs inside the house, in the garage or somewhere that’s super secure so that they aren’t going to get scared and try to run off,” Lisa Henderson, a Warren County Animal Control officer says.
Henderson also advises to keep your pets at home if possible so you don’t risk forgetting them in a hot car, something that happens all too often.
