Pest control experts advise protection from termites

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-It’s termite awareness week and exterminators want people in the area to be prepared for the upcoming termite season.

Termites cause $5 billion in property damage every year, destroying more homes than fires and storms.

As it gets warmer out, termites start to show up. Extermination professionals say look for small wings near windows and mud tubes. If you think you may have a termite problem, it’s time to call a professional.

“In this area it’s not a matter of if it’s a matter of when you’ll get termites if you’re not protected. It’s like anything else, prevention is better than cure. So, you’re better off to have someone do a thorough inspection of your property, and get on a termite prevention program,” said Charles Jones, a pest control expert.

Termite prevention includes not stacking wood near the home and reducing humidity in crawl spaces.
