Person surrenders 80 dogs in Warren County, Humane Society needs help

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – If you are looking to adopt a dog, right now is the time.

The Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society needs the public’s help after a woman surrendered around 80 dogs last week.

The shelter caps out at about a total of 150 dogs at once, so, thankfully another group was able to take half of the dogs to help out the shelter.

Last week, outside of the large surrender, the shelter received 62 owner surrender and 42 strays.

Even so, the shelter is at capacity, and cages are having to be split in half to have enough room for the animals.

This all comes just after another large number of dogs had been held at the shelter and were just released only a month ago.

Shelter director Lorri Hare called it overwhelming, but said after checking for microchips, the shelter was able to assist in a few furry reunions.

“We noticed that several have microchips and were missing from previous owners. The owners were super grateful when we reached out. But we tell people, it’s so important, if you find an animal, don’t assume that it doesn’t have an owner. A lot of great owners’ pets go missing. Make sure you take that animal to a vet’s office or to a Humane Society and have it scanned for a chip,” said Hare.

The shelter is in need of donations non-clumping cat litter, detergent and bleach.

Hare encourages everyone to microchip and spay and neuter your pets.
