RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – The Russellville Police Department says a man attempted to purchase equipment to assist in the detonation of an explosive device.

Chief of Police Jeff Sanford says an individual allegedly entered Walmart and asked employees to purchase a detonation device to build a bomb on Jan. 3.

The business contacted Russellville police, who responded and apprehended the subject that same day.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives was contacted and is conducting an additional investigation.

The suspect is Jace Hostetler, 18 of Auburn.

Hostetler allegedly asked Walmart employees about the radio distance of walkie talkies. An employee says Hostetler said he wanted to detonate a bomb he had built from a mile away.

According to a uniform citation, Hostetler told officers he and a friend built the bomb out of Tannerite.

Hostetler is charged with first-degree terroristic threatening and is lodged at the Logan County Jail.

Sanford says there are no threats to the community.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
