PennyRoyal Market supports local farmers and businesses

BOWLING GREEN, KY.- After a year of renovations, PennyRoyal Market officially opened its doors back in February. Over the past few months, it has been able to support more than 100 farmers and small businesses, and this all started with one Kentucky native.

Owner Laura Gilbert says, “I’ve always been in small businesses. And so, I watched my grandparents, and I just wanted to do the same thing. And now that my kids are, you know, getting older, I have a 17-year-old. I wanted him to be able to grow in a small business, like at it.” a

Garrad Sparks, the sales manager, says, “Working here as a sales person, it’s fun. And sometimes it’s not as fun, but it’s more enjoyable when you get to work with your mom. We took everything that people like about Kentucky and put it all in one shop.”

This business creates a centralized location for Kentucky products in the Bowling Green community and for those just passing by.

Jazmin Novak, the market manager, tells us, “We would like to be able to help support those local farmers and local businesses and be able to get their names out as well, and bring other Kentucky products to Bowling Green.”

Whether it’s the homemade banana pudding or connecting with the community, the markets goal is to share traditions from all over the commonwealth.

Maddie Boyer, an employee at the market says, “They are always really excited when we have the soda bread and all the local made stuff. They want stuff that’s not doesn’t have all the additives and other random stuff in it. So they like knowing, it’s like, oh, so-and-so made this. I don’t know if you know them, but they made this bread and they’re from, you know, Hendersonville.”

The PennyRoyal Market is located on Mount Victor Lane. For more information visit, its Facebook page.
