Passerby helps minor out of car on fire in Logan County

AUBURN, Ky. – On Friday, March 25 around 4:56 p.m., the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the approximate 2000 block of Sharp Garden Road in reference to a two-vehicle injury accident.

Derik Eigsti, 26, of Russellville was operating his 2017 GMS Sierra southbound on the road when he collided head-on with a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse traveling northbound operated by a minor.

Upon arrival of first responders, the minor’s vehicle began to catch fire.

A passerby had pulled the minor from the vehicle shortly before it became fully engulfed.

Eigsti was transported to Bowling Green Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The minor was transported by AirVac to Nashville Skyline Medical Center for treatment.

Cellular device use is believed to be a contributing factor to the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
