PARK CITY, Ky. (WNKY) – Park City commissioners have approved funding for a refurbished automated chest-compression machine that will help first responders continue CPR during cardiac emergencies.

According to Glasgow News 1, commissioners voted Monday to contribute $5,419 toward the purchase. An anonymous donor will cover the remaining half of the roughly $10,500 cost.

The Barren River Area Development District helped the city locate the refurbished machine. Mayor Donna Scavo said a new unit would cost about $22,000.

The device provides automated chest compressions, allowing responders to maintain CPR while performing other lifesaving tasks or moving a patient.

BRADD’s Matt Pedigo told commissioners the machine was refurbished by the manufacturer and confirmed to be compatible with equipment already used by Barren-Metcalfe EMS.

Commissioners also decided against providing a community dumpster this fall because of current financial obligations. The city plans to revisit the cleanup effort next spring and potentially next fall.

Park City also is moving forward with a volunteer effort to repaint the city’s fire hydrants, with paint donated by CEA.

The next Park City Commission meeting is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 5 p.m.
