Overcrowding reported at local shelters and humane societies across south-central Kentucky

SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – From Hart County to Bowling Green and lots of areas in between, animals are being dropped at shelters left and right.

We spoke with several local humane societies and shelters and learned that there have been hundreds of adoptions because of the lack of spayed and neutered animals and the storms from the past weekend all over south-central Kentucky.

The Bowling Green – Warren County Humane Society staff tells us that high intake rates and low adoption rates will not help with the overcrowding.

Kate Holmes, the marketing manager at the Bowling Green Warren-County Humane Society, says, “We simply don’t have the space. In one of our buildings, we have six, maybe if they’re smaller dogs, eight dogs in a kennel that’s just not conducive to dogs living their lives, right? So, we’ve got to get adoptions and clear some space because at a certain point, we won’t have any more room for those intakes that are coming in.”

Adoption fees at the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society are now $25 until June 9. If you have any further questions about how you can help, call your local shelter or humane society.
