Over 700 kids learn safety at annual Safety Days event

Today was field trip day for hundreds of local kids.

Aside from a fun time, they learned valuable safety lessons through a variety of demonstrations that could happen to them in real life.

One important message the event sends is for kids to make safe decisions.

About 700 4th graders from Warren, Allen, and Edmonson counties participated today.

The field trip provides the students with a variety of fun, interactive and educational experiences.

That’s all done through sessions covering topics like tractor and roadway safety.

There was also a session on weather, taught by our very own Meteorologist Cody Bailey.

Other sessions included the importance of wearing a seatbelt and even an electric safety demonstration.

The electric safety demonstration was sponsored by Tri-County Electric.

We spoke to one Coordinator of the event, Catherine Malin, who told us what the safety message is for today.

She says that no matter how young a child is, they are responsible for their own safety.

Malin also tells us there were over 100 volunteers on hand to make today’s event possible.

There were also students and faculty from WKU who donated their time to help.

She says that’s what makes the event special every year and the event a community-based educational event.
