Over 2 million pounds of food donated through Feeding America to Kentucky

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. – Dollar General is highlighting its commitment to addressing food insecurity in Kentucky through Feeding America.
According to a release by Dollar General on Thursday, for the first seven months of this year, more than 2.1 million pounds of food was donated to Feeding America partner food banks in Kentucky.
These included Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland, Dare to Care and God’s Pantry Food Bank, Inc. Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland serves 42 counties in Kentucky.
“With more than 47 million people in the U.S. currently unsure where their next meal will come from, especially in rural communities with a lack of retail options, we are proud to partner with Feeding America and their affiliated partners across the country to help those who may need it most, ” Denine Torr, Dollar General’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. “Leveraging our store and distribution center footprint, we are uniquely positioned to support our hometowns by addressing food insecurity and increasing access to nutritious food. Through our continued partnership with Feeding America, we’re working together to support our neighbors, customers and communities—one meal at a time.”
In July, Dollar General says it celebrated its five-year partnership anniversary with Feeding America with an additional $1 million donation. The company says it currently serves nearly 45% of U.S. counties through product donations to the nonprofit.
