Operation SafeDRIVE takes effect from Kentucky State Police
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are participating in a brand new program focused on distracted driving.
June 20-22 will see KSP hosting the SafeDRIVE program, which focuses on distracted, reckless or impaired driving enforcement.
Troopers will be out in heavy force on the interstates to watch out for any distracted behaviors.
Cell phone use is one of the major issues KSP will keep track of, but that’s not all they’re hoping to get rid of.
“What we’re looking for when we’re looking at distraction… of course, cell phone is the biggest one. That is what gets the big wrap when you’re talking about distracted driving. You also have others. You have eating in the car, you have passengers, the general scenery that you may be around can cause those distractions,” Sgt. Jason Morris of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement department at KSP says.
Morris also says he hopes this campaign reminds us to keep our eyes on the road and to be aware of our surroundings.
