Once-abandoned Kentucky dog named finalist for Farm Dog of the Year

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – Kentucky Farm Bureau has announced a Kentucky dog is among five finalists for the People’s Choice Pup award in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2024 Farm Dog of the Year Competition.
According to a release by the Kentucky Farm Bureau, Daisy, a mix of several breeds, was entered by KFB members Shelby and Lora Ennis of Elizabethtown.
The release says the Ennis family rescued Daisy after she was abandoned.
However, it’s not her rescue story that inspired the family to enter Daisy into the competition.
When Lora Ennis suffered a hard fall at home, the release says Daisy alerted Shelby Ennis of the incident. The release says Lora Ennis was alright, but the couple realized “there was something special” about their dog.
“When Lora came home from the hospital, she was so weak and stayed sitting in her chair for the next two days, but Daisy was extremely quiet around her,” Shelby Ennis said. “She apparently understood what was going on and that Lora needed to rest.”
The release says Daisy also discovered someone in distress while on a walk at a nearby trail.
“It’s hard to tell how long he would have been there had Daisy not found him,” Shelby Ennis said.
The release says the pup has informally become known as “Daisy the Rescuer.”
Members of the public can vote to help Daisy advance in the competition now through Nov. 8. To cast a vote, visit kyfb.com/Vote4Daisy. The winner will be announced at AFBF’s annual meeting in January.
