Oldest living Allen County World War II veteran celebrates 99th birthday

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – June 6th, 2025, is now known as James “Boss” Weaver Day in Allen County, named after a local veteran in honor of his 99th birthday.

Sam’s Restaurant hosted a celebration for one of its regulars, who, according to owner Sam Carter, eats there multiple times a week.

“A few weeks ago, they said his 99th birthday was coming up, and I said, ‘Mr. Weaver, I’ll be glad to make you a cake.’ and he said that’s good. I thought, if they’re not going to do anything for his birthday. He is a World War II veteran, and I thought we all need to honor him,” Carter says.

State Representative Shawn McPherson was on hand to share what makes Boss so special in Allen County.

“We know you’re the only surviving World War II veteran in Allen County, and there are very few left in the state… and so today, we honor you for your birthday, and we honor you for the 82nd anniversary of D-Day,” he says.

Boss has worn many hats in his life, whether in the military or back at home.

“Thank you for what you’ve done for the county. You were a road employee for 30 years at the Allen County Road Department… appreciate that, appreciate all you’ve done for your community,” Allen County judge executive Dennis Harper says.

His family is grateful to have him around and share this day with him, and thanks Sam and his crew for putting on this celebration.

“We appreciate that… that’s great… and I love it. Everybody says ‘I love Boss’, that’s his nickname… and I’ll say ‘I love him too.’ I’ve been lucky to have… a Dad like him,” his daughter Janice Stinson says.

We’d like to wish Boss Weaver a happy 99th birthday!
