Old Friends at Kentucky Downs is closing their Franklin division

FRANKLIN Ky.- A thoroughbred retirement horse home in Franklin will soon say goodbye to its beloved horses.

Old Friends, which has its headquarters in Georgetown, also has a division in Simpson County. However, that division won’t be around much longer. The horses will be sent back to their original home in Georgetown.

The Simpson County Tourism office was responsible for giving tours at the Kentucky Downs facility. The Franklin division opened its gates in June 2015.

Ray Hutcheson with the Simpson County Tourism Commission said he’s sad to see the horses go.

“This was a little something to get me out of the house, something to do. It’s kind of sad for all of us that have had association with the horses to see them leave,” Hutcheson said.

The horses will be sent back to Georgetown July 25.
