Officials discuss backup dispatch center for David Whitson Training Center
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The David Whitson Training Center that serves the Bowling Green police department and the Bowling Green Fire Department is almost in full effect. The communications center, also known as dispatch, is also getting a space in the new training center.
Jeff Meisel, the Bowling Green city manager, says, “When we were planning this building, we, we knew we needed a backup dispatch center and also a dispatch center. That would be great for training new dispatchers.”
Most people can miss the value of dispatchers who remain calm during difficult situations and ultimately become the voice for people in unfortunate situations.
Danielle Piper, the assistant deputy director of the Bowling Green Police Department communications center, says, “Just seeing the new looks of the building for our dispatchers, because I really enjoy it. I think a lot of times the dispatchers do get overlooked. And with this new center, it’s here to help them.”
Not only does this help dispatchers by providing more space but it also provides a connection.
Piper also says, “We are the first person that answers the phone when you call in 911. And of course, normally it’s your worst day of your life. So we’re there to help you and calm you and to be able to help get that information for our first responders and get them there quickly, and to just help provide that service to the citizens.”
Making sure that everyone who is a part of serving this community and keeping it safe is a top priority for everyone in leadership.
Meisel says, “It’s important, during emergencies, that there is no disruption of service because people are in need. There are no excuses that can be made when there is an emergency. We have to respond. Police and fire. County. Same way. Warren county emergency management. It doesn’t matter. You’ve got to be ready. You’ve got to be able to respond, no matter what.”
News 40 will continue to keep you up to date with the center and it’s impact.
