Norton Children’s provides summer safety tips

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- For many families, summer travel and experiences have already started.

Along with all the fun that comes with summer, health experts say there’s a lot of danger that can come with the season.

Ahead of Memorial Day, Norton Children’s experts say several injuries and illnesses are common during the summer season, like sunburn, head injuries, drowning and much more.

Dr Kries with Norton Children’s Medical Group emphasizes that many injuries can be life-threatening

Kries, a Pediatric physician Norton Children’s Medical Group in Bowling Green, says, “Summertime is both wonderful and also comes with some risk because we’re outdoors more, we’re swimming in pools, we’re riding bikes and we’re doing some activities that put children at risk for unintentional injuries.

To prevent your child from getting hurt, Kries encourages parents to be a good example for their  children, wear helmets while bike riding, and have one parent watch one child while they’re swimming.
