New Glasgow mural honors town’s history – one week till completion

GLASGOW, Ky. – Glasgow’s square is getting livelier by the day, and their next big project is bound to draw in even more eager downtown goers.

A few months ago, the planning and zoning committee, the Renaissance board, and Glasgow Tourism collaborated together, itching to get the next big eyepiece downtown. They decided the back of the City Hall building would be the perfect home for their new mural.

Glasgow Tourism executive director MacLean Lessenberry said, “Any pictures that are taken in front of this is just extra publicity for us. Especially the location of this being right next to the plaza theater we’re super excited about. We have tons of tourists and out of town guests into the plaza constantly year round, so this is great.”

The red represents the barns in Barren County, the blues play homage to the school districts – even the old retro football jerseys- and the plaid serves as a remnant of Glasgow’s official colors.

Planning and zoning director Kevin Myatt said it was important from the beginning that they hire a local artist.

“We wanted to really have somebody that knew the area that understood the area that understood the pride that we had here. And we felt Kasey was gonna meet the all of those aspects,” said Myatt.

Artist Kasey Page has completed murals in his past, but nothing compared to this. His main goal?

“The number one thing is for Glasgow, the young people in Glasgow, to have something really make something for them,” said Page.

He started the mural only one month ago, and now, the masterpiece is close to fruition.

“It’s for us, it’s for Glasgow, so please come downtown and enjoy yourselves,” Page invited.

Page said the mural should be complete and ready for pictures next week.
