New text and phone scam surfacing in Warren County

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is again warning about scammers pretending to be a part of law enforcement.

A Warren County resident says they got a text from someone claiming to be sergeant Ken with the WCSO.

The scammer said the person he called had missed a federal court summons and owed over $1,000, but the scammer said he could only be paid at Walmart by scanning codes sent to the recipient. The call came from (270)-249-9856, which is likely a spoofed number.

The sheriff’s office wants you to know they will never call you about a missing court date or an active warrant.

You also cannot settle court fees by sending cash, gift cards or Bitcoin to someone via an app.
