New scam targets computer users in Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of yet another scam.

According to Sheriff Brett Hightower, the law enforcement agency was notified of a scam where a person called a citizen, telling them he was with Microsoft and there was a problem with their computer.

The caller asked for permission to remotely access the computer to fix the problem.

Once access was granted, the caller then stated he located the problem and there was a cost to repair it.

The caller then asked for a credit card number and told the owner the transaction was denied. The owner was then instructed to purchase a Google gift card and provide them with the information.

If you receive a similar call, you are urged to never give out personal or financial information.
