New roundabout set to be constructed at Veterans Memorial Lane and Tomblinson Way

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Drivers near the Preston Miller Park area will want to take notice, because some road construction of a new roundabout may impact your commute in the area.

The roundabout is being constructed at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Lane and Tomblinson Way.

The project was approved during Tuesday’s City Commission meeting and will be the 18th roundabout in the city of Bowling Green.

The reason each area is chosen for specific roundabouts is different, and this one in particular is because of the amount of accidents seen there over the years.

“I believe there’s been nine accidents in the past five years at this intersection, so we did want to do something to address the safety and the congestion at this location. Given the success of the roundabouts at Ken Bale Boulevard, Southwest Parkway, and Westen Street, this seems like the next best place to do this,” City Engineer Kyle Hunt says.

As for the timeline on when you can expect to see construction, Hunt says it’s sooner than you think:

“We had a pre-construction meeting this morning with the contractor, which is Scotty’s, and they’re looking to get started next week… and so this one is going to happen rather quickly. We’re having them complete the project prior to the water park opening at the end of May for Memorial Day.”

The project will cost the city $927,480.87 to complete. News 40 will keep you updated as construction rolls along.
