New robotic biopsy device at TJ Samson to help with lung cancer testing

GLASGOW, Ky. – A new machine at TJ Samson Community Hospital is set to help patients who are being tested for lung cancer.

This new device allows doctors to travel inside a lung to inspect certain areas during testing.

It will give doctors a GPS route to certain spots during cat scans, which will help them find the area of the lung they’re looking for a lot easier.

One doctor at TJ Samson says this device is a game changer for those in his field.

“It helps to streamline the process from when a patient first has something noticed on a cat scan to when they get referred to the appropriate specialist. The benefit of a technology like this is you can do not only the diagnostic portion, but also the staging portion in the same procedure,” Dr. Omar Mahmoud at TJ Samson Community Hospital says.

Doctors also say this will cut down on treatment time to make sure this patient is helped as quickly and efficiently as possible.
