New research in lung cancer detection
Researchers say they’re able to detect lung cancer from just a patient’s breath.
A new study by the American Chemical Society found a drop in a chemical called isoprene can indicate the presence of lung cancer. But to detect that, an ultrasensitive sensor would need to be used. The findings could eventually lead to non-invasive lung cancer tests. In the study in ACS Sensors, researchers report developing ultrasensitive, nanoscale sensors that in small-scale tests distinguished a key change in the chemistry of the breath of people with lung cancer.
