New laws going into effect on January 1, 2025 in Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – There are some new laws going into effect on January 1, 2025 here in Kentucky that you need to be aware of.

First, as you may already know, medical marijuana can be sold in Kentucky, however, since all product must be grown in the commonwealth, it may not be available for purchase on January 1st.

The other major one is House Bill 439, which was signed in 2021, but will now go into effect. It requires a vision test in order to renew your driver’s license.

We spoke to Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower a few weeks ago, who told us what this will mean for those in Kentucky.

“You know, it can be very limiting on somebody losing that freedom of driving. But at the same time, there’s also the aspect of at what point does it become unsafe for the operator and the other motorists out on the roadway if somebody is unable to, accurately perceive, you know, themselves and distances,” he says.
