New Kentucky licenses to be issued in the next few months

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-In the next few months, two new driver’s licenses will be made available for Kentuckians to obtain.

One is a standard driver’s license and the other is a voluntary travel ID.

Both allow Kentuckians to drive, vote and apply for federal benefits, but if you are planning to fly domestically or enter a military base or federal facility, you must purchase the travel ID.

On October 1, 2020, only people with those travel IDs will be allowed to fly domestically.

Yet, in counties around Kentucky, it remains unclear when the new licenses will be available. In Warren County, Circuit Court Clerk, Brandi Duvall is hearing it will likely be next month or soon thereafter.

“We have people coming in almost everyday now wanting to know if they can get the new licenses,” said, Duvall. “At this point, we still don’t have those dates yet, so I’m not sure what date, but it will be between January and March. Hopefully sooner rather than later.”

Duvall says her office has added extra staff and a camera to prepare for the changes. With the new licenses, rather than obtaining the physical ID at the Clerk’s office, it will be mailed.
