New Annual Ownership Fee for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles
BOWLING GREEN, KY.- Starting January 1st 2024 Kentucky electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles will have registration fees. The fees will go to the Kentucky Road Fund to maintain and develop transportation infrastructure.
The New Annual Ownership Fees will be $120 for electric vehicles…$60 for hybrids… and $60 for electric motorcycles. The fee will be due at initial registration and each annual vehicle registration renewal. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is mailing postcards to Kentuckians with payment information.
County Clerks have different systems. Warren County Clerk Lynette Yates shares how electric and hybrid vehicle owners will pay differently this year. Yates says, “There’s going to be a fee that’s going to be sent out to people that own electric vehicles. They will pay that online. They don’t pay it here in our office, even though they say that if you come to the office, we will allow you to renew the vehicle.”
Clerk’s offices are accepting payments in different forms. To ensure that you have the correct form of payment call your local county clerk’s office or visit https://drive.ky.gov/pages/ev-hv-fee.aspx.
