FAIRFIELD, Ky. – A Nelson County woman is facing charges after deputies say she admitted to trying to kill her boyfriend and her mother in a house fire.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were advised of a structure fire just before 9:40 p.m. Saturday on the 300 block of Little Union Road in Fairfield.

Upon arrival, authorities say a structure fire was located, along with a suspect.

Deputies say 33-year-old Sarah Shelburne of Fairfield “intentionally set the residence on fire” after an argument with her mother.

Shelburne admitted to setting the fire in an attempt to kill her mother and boyfriend, authorities say.

Shelburne was interviewed at the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, where deputies say she became belligerent and assaulted a deputy.

Shelburne was transported to the Nelson County Correctional Center.

She is charged with first-degree arson, two counts of attempted murder, third-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by Nelson County EMS, Northeast Nelson Fire Department, Nelson County Fire and Rescue and Nelson County Dispatch.
