Neighborhood and Community Services continues development of greenways on west end of Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At Tuesday’s Bowling Green City Commission meeting, the continuation of the West End greenway project was approved, planning to connect that community with downtown Bowling Green.

A bid was accepted on that project, which initially went from the corner of Veterans Memorial Lane and Kentucky Street by the train depot all the way to the corner of Gordon Avenue and Double Springs Road.

This new phase would go from Double Springs to Church Street then going back towards Hobson Grove Park.

Staff with Neighborhood and Community Services say this is a huge addition to the city in making this connection.

“For years, we’ve been trying to create better opportunities for people that live in the West End to connect to downtown, because once you start making that… now you have connections for work, you have connections for the Medical Center, you have connections for retail, you have connections for more services, and so that’s really what we’ve been trying to do is how do we make better connections for our neighbors back into where services are… and this is just an example of one of those projects,” director Brent Childers says.

He adds the current timeline for construction is about 6 t0 8 months. News 40 will keep you updated as we learn more.

In the meantime, the City Commission also honored the Bowling Green Purples basketball team for their run to the state championship in Lexington, so once again, a huge congratulations to the Purples on their successful season.
