Nearly $10 million in unclaimed property could belong to residents of Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky state treasurer has 30 ingots of silver and a James Bond gun that his team is trying to return to the rightful owners.

The treasury is charged with returning unclaimed property, whether it is forgotten bank accounts, unclaimed life insurance or the contents left behind in safety deposit boxes, which is where the silver and gun turned up.

Kentucky currently has $840 million worth of unclaimed property, and the treasurer is trying to find the owners.

State treasurer Mark H. Metcalf says, “Well, by the end of this year, we will have returned a record amount of property to Kentuckians, almost $30 million, if not a little bit more. It is a duty, a sacred obligation charged to the treasurer’s office, and we stay after it.”

To find out if any of this unclaimed property belongs to you, go to the treasurer’s site at treasury.ky.gov. Under the unclaimed property section, you can search your name or that of a relative.

Almost $10 million worth may belong to citizens of Warren County.
